Tim Davies announces a new chapter after seven years on Today — and the reason behind his emotional goodbye
For more than seven years, Tim Davies has been one of the familiar faces greeting Australians each morning on Today.
But that chapter is now coming to an end.
The 42-year-old weather presenter has confirmed that Friday, September 18, 2026, will be his final morning on the Nine breakfast program, marking the end of a remarkable run that has seen him travel more than 900 times for the show. Nine confirmed the departure on August 28.
“I’ve had the time of my life”
Davies shared the news with viewers after more than seven years on Today, reflecting on the extraordinary experiences the job had given him.
From regional Australian towns to international destinations, he became known for taking viewers along for the ride — often reporting from some of the most unexpected locations.
In his farewell message, Davies thanked the viewers, communities, schools, clubs and local businesses that had welcomed him over the years.
He described leaving as difficult, but said he was doing so “on a high and on my terms.”
And before his next chapter begins, there is one thing he is looking forward to most: a proper break, without his camera crew following him around.
Seven years — and more than 900 flights
Davies joined Today in 2019 and quickly became one of the program’s most recognisable personalities.
His weather reports were rarely simply about the forecast.
Over the years, he has skydived, bungee-jumped, abseiled, swum with sharks and crocodiles, raced performance vehicles and taken part in live acrobatic stunts.
But perhaps his most enduring contribution was the way he brought regional Australians and their stories into millions of homes.
Nine’s Director of Morning Television, Steven Burling, said Davies had given small towns and communities a national platform and would leave “enormous shoes to fill”.
The job looked like a dream — but life on the road came at a cost
Davies has previously spoken about the less glamorous side of his television career.
For years, his work meant early mornings, constant flights and living with little routine.
While travelling the country may sound like the perfect job, he admitted that there were times when he simply wanted to be home with his family for important moments.
That reality appears to have played a part in his decision to finally step back.
Nine said it fully supported Davies’ decision to “lay down some roots” after seven years of effectively living out of a suitcase.
A career that started far from the Today weather desk
Davies’ association with Nine stretches beyond his time on Today.
He has spent around 12 years with the network, initially working behind the scenes and as a reporter before moving in front of the camera.
His television career eventually led him to Today, where he replaced Steve Jacobs as the program’s weather presenter.
Looking back, Davies has described his move in front of the camera as something he never expected.
He once admitted that he never imagined he would become the person delivering the weather to Australians every morning.
An emotional goodbye from his Today family
The announcement has also been difficult for Davies’ colleagues.
News presenter Jayne Azzopardi became emotional as she spoke about his departure, telling him that his warmth and authenticity were among the reasons viewers had connected with him.
Her words captured what Davies has represented to Today audiences over the years: someone who could bring energy and optimism to the screen, even when the wider news cycle was far less cheerful.
Davies, in turn, thanked the Today audience for allowing him into their homes every morning.
Another major change for Today
Tim’s departure comes at an especially unsettled time for the Nine breakfast program.
Karl Stefanovic left Channel Nine in June after the network confirmed his departure with immediate effect. Sarah Abo is currently on maternity leave, while Danika Mason is also expecting a baby later this year.
That means Davies’ exit creates another significant vacancy in a program already undergoing considerable change.

But this isn’t necessarily goodbye to Nine
Importantly, Davies has announced his departure from Today — not necessarily a complete departure from the Nine network.
For now, he says his immediate priority is simpler: a break.
After years of early starts, constant travel and hundreds of flights, he wants some time to slow down before deciding what comes next.
And while his final weather forecast is still a few weeks away, one thing is already clear.
The man who spent seven years travelling across Australia to bring viewers sunshine, stories and smiles is about to close one of the biggest chapters of his career.
