In an interview with The Courier-Mail, Lewis reflected on the breakdown of his relationship with his three children—Mitchell, 40, Lincoln, 38, and Jamie Lee, 36.
The publication reported that the rugby league icon became visibly emotional while discussing his family.
“I had a bit of a tough time in my life and a sad departure from my family,” Lewis said.
“I don’t feel good about that and I don’t get the chance to spend much time with the kids.”
Despite the estrangement, Lewis made it clear his admiration for his children has never faded.
“They are three wonderful kids, and I’m very sorry it affected them… but I’m very proud of them and the support they give their mother.”

According to the source, some relatives reportedly laughed at the way Lewis described the situation.
“When the family read Wally’s weekend interview, there were a few chuckles on his choice of words like ‘departure from family’ and not getting to spend ‘much time’ with the kids.”

A family divided since his marriage ended
Lewis separated from his wife of 36 years, Jacqueline, in 2021, ending one of rugby league’s longest-known marriages.

Not long afterwards, Lewis confirmed his relationship with Lynda Adams, whom he later married in 2025.
According to the same Woman’s Day source, Jacqueline has since moved forward with her life.
