Scott Cam Shares Hopeful Health Update After Major Surgery: “The First Five Days Were Not Good”
As The Block returned for another highly anticipated season, many viewers noticed one familiar face had been unusually quiet in the lead-up to the premiere.
Now, Scott Cam has revealed the painful reason behind his disappearance — and why he spent the past two weeks in hospital while the show’s launch was unfolding.

Why Scott Cam Suddenly Went Missing
With Season 22 of The Block premiering on Channel Nine, fans expected to see host Scott Cam front and centre promoting the new series.
Instead, the 63-year-old was largely absent from the usual media appearances.
On Sunday night, Cam finally addressed the mystery in an Instagram post, revealing he had been recovering from major knee replacement surgery.
“You may have noticed I’ve been a little MIA before The Block kicking off tonight,” he wrote.
“I’ve been getting a new knee for the last two weeks to keep up with the grandkids.”
Alongside the message, Cam shared photos from his hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up to fans, as well as another image showing the surgical dressing on his knee and himself walking with the aid of a cane.

One Unexpected Moment Changed Everything
The need for surgery wasn’t entirely unrelated to The Block.
During a media preview in July, Cam revealed his knee had already been badly damaged following an earlier arthroscopy.
But things took another turn during filming when Victorian contestant Tayla Peroomal enthusiastically ran towards him and leapt into his arms.
“She ran from about 10 feet away and launched onto me,” Cam recalled.
“I stumbled, I held on… and now I’m getting a new knee.”
While the incident was light-hearted, it ultimately became the final straw for an already injured joint.
A Painful Recovery Behind the Scenes
Although viewers saw Cam smiling on television, the reality away from the cameras was far more difficult.
Speaking on Stav, Abby & Matt, he admitted the days immediately after surgery were incredibly challenging.
“The first five days were not good. Let me tell you.”
Cam revealed he required strong pain medication during the early stages because of the severity of the procedure.
“Knee replacements are pretty big. There’s a lot of pain involved.”
By the end of the second week, however, he said he was beginning to turn a corner.
He explained that he was preparing to return home, although he was still relying on a walking stick and remained unable to move around normally.

Now, Scott Has Shared a More Encouraging Update
Despite the difficult recovery, Cam has reassured fans that his condition is steadily improving.
His latest social media update showed him smiling from hospital and determined to get back on his feet.
While he continues rehabilitation and is still using a walking stick, he has indicated the worst of the recovery is now behind him.
The veteran television host remains optimistic that the surgery will allow him to stay active — especially with his grandchildren.
The Block Returns With High Hopes
As Cam focuses on his recovery, The Block has officially begun its latest season in Mount Eliza on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Five new teams are renovating luxury homes overlooking Port Phillip Bay, with the properties expected to be among the most ambitious in the show’s history.
The season also carries extra pressure for Channel Nine after last year’s Daylesford series struggled at auction, with two homes still unsold almost a year after the finale.
For Scott Cam, however, this year’s biggest challenge wasn’t launching another season of Australia’s favourite renovation show.
It was simply getting back on his feet in time to enjoy the next chapter — both on screen and at home with his family.
