Tinhlm – Records tumble as Fremantle open up ‘old scars’ in biggest ever win over North Melbourne

The Dockers kicked an extraordinary 19 consecutive goals en route to their biggest ever victory.

Fremantle have kicked an extraordinary 19 consecutive goals to demolish North Melbourne by 124 points at Hands Oval in Bunbury on Saturday afternoon.

After a relatively even first quarter, the Dockers put the foot down to absolutely obliterate the shellshocked Kangaroos and notch the biggest win in club history.

It eclipsed their previous biggest win, which was 113 points over the Giants back in 2012.

It was also their 12th-straight victory to leave them perfectly placed in top spot on the AFL ladder ahead of next week’s bye.

Fremantle had winners all over the park. Luke Jackson dominated the ruck and went forward to kick three goals, while Patrick Voss and Josh Treacy both kicked four each.

Hayden Young marked his return to the team with two goals and 23 touches, while Murphy Reid, Neil Erasmus, Shai Bolton and Andrew Brayshaw were all prolific.

While Fremantle were ruthless, North Melbourne were toothless.

The Roos incredibly managed just four behinds from the sixth minute in the second quarter until the end of the match.

They finished with just four goals, with their 31 points the lowest total in over four years.

“North just bitterly disappointing today. Started OK, the first quarter was competitive and then the wheels just completely fell off. They should be as flat as a tack because that was unacceptable,” Brad Johnson said on Fox Footy.

Fremantle have notched their biggest win in club history.

Ben Dixon added: “This will dig up some old scars and memories based on where they have been over the last few years. They’ve been belted many times and that’s not how you want to come off the bye, especially after the first half of season where you showed some real promise.”

Coach Alastair Clarkson didn’t shy away from the “dreadful” performance post-match.

“We’re disappointed to come here and put on a performance like that,” he said.

“Their rucks gave them first use and we became very reactive. Usually games have ebbs and flows but we couldn’t get ourselves back in.

“When we’re strong around contest we’re a strong football side but we just weren’t. We were dreadful from start to finish.

“It’s soul-destroying when it’s coming so easily for them from centre bounces and defensive 50 stoppages.”

After beating West Coast in their inaugural Bunbury “home’‘ fixture last year – under a deal with the WA government – the Kangaroos stayed with Fremantle for about 40 minutes.

The margin was just six points when George Wardlaw kicked North’s fourth major at the seven-minute mark of the second term.

But the Dockers went on a tear, slamming through the next eight goals in just 19 minutes to lead by 54 points – 13.4 to 4.4 – at the main break.

AFL R13 match report: Dazzling Dockers make it a dozen with record win

It was Fremantle’s highest first-half score in more than 11 years and also the third consecutive game in which the Kangaroos have conceded 75 or more points by halftime.

There was no repeat of North’s remarkable fightback against Gold Coast last round, as they went goalless in the second half against the Dockers and added just 0.3 to their tally.

It was the equal-seventh heaviest loss in Kangaroos history and the biggest margin of defeat in Alastair Clarkson’s coaching tenure.
